Because these covers hides the driving light, many Cougar owners, either for aesthetic or safety reasons, cut away a small area to reveal the driving light. One known example of such custom work are the taillight covers done by NECO member Reagan, who cut the outlines of the Cougar logo over the third tail light.

With good paint work, the flat portions of the taillights will appear to blend in to the car's body, revealing red only around the light dome-shaped housing.
